Aviva has been a leader and innovator of fixed annuities and fixed index annuities in recent years. During the peak of the recent financial crisis Aviva was the number one leader in Fixed Index Annuity sales based on total volume. Aviva has a culture of protecting their existing clients at the expense of gaining new clients when it comes to protecting their capital reserves position. During the financial crisis they quickly cut agents, staff and distribution channels surrendering their number one position in overall volume to increase reserves for client safety and company stability. As a result Aviva substantially increased reserves, maintained an AM Best A rating and continued a controlled expansion of Annuity Business in the U.S..

My mother passed away about a year ago and had an AVIVA annuity. I still do not have the funds. At first they tried to tell me that I had to leave the money with them. My financial adviser had to contact them to let them know that what they were doing was illegal. They then agreed to release the funds, but now I received a letter stating that I have to pay a surrender fee. A surrender fee? My mother is not surrendering her annuity. She is dead. I am just trying to get my inheritance, but AVIA is trying to get the shirt of her back, after she is dead. If you have finds with AVIA or are thinking of it, think again. No family member should have to go through this while dealing with the loss of a loved one. Luckily I have a savvy financial adviser who would not back down. For others who do not know the system, this company will rob you blind and it is unethical and illegal. My mother thought her agent was just the nicest man in the world. She talked so highly of him and even had him meet with us so everything would go well upon her death. Once she passed, he was out of the picture. Did not want to be of any help. Don’t worry, mom is watching.
I am confused about the fees and the complicated policy. Aviva is not amongst the best interest rates or return on investment companies. I do like that the principal is protected, but overall the low rates and high fees do not allow to keep up inflation much. Also found their stocks is not among the highest rates. Overall, this is a great company if you are in England and not so great if you in the States—just my opinion. THey seem to have high penalties and fees ,so be careful and understand what you are getting into. I have been very pleased with customer service—agents I spoke to were very patient and helpful.
Don’t like AVIVA or any annuity no risk no reward the insurance companies win big
Not loosin money with Aviva not makin much money either I guess for now thats okay. no major complaints
I am disapointed with Aviva. I have a hard time getting answers. There phone system is like every other big corporation I have been on hold for as long as 30 minutes and I feel this is unacceptable. I have a great Advisor so I just make it his problem when i need something. I have done well financially especially considering the recession!
I have been an investor most of my days I know that this aviva annuity is good for retirement especially now but it takes away the hope of high returns it just pays a little interest with no losses
I am confused about the fees and you are right, Aviva is not amongst the best interest rates. I do like that the principal is protected. Also found their stocks is not among the highest rates. Overall, this is great company if you are England and not so great if you in the States—just my opinion.
My husband had the forsight to structure our retirement with annuities and I have an avviva annuity that is guaranteed to grow at 7.2% on an account that guarantees me a certain level of income in the future when I need it. I have already turned income on with a couple of other Aviva accounts and it is nice to know that my income is guaranteed as long as i need it and if I do not use everything in my cash account it goes to my daughter when I pass on
I thought this was like a CD I was not told about the long surrender period of ten years and a 10% penalty to get at my money and now I am stuck. I blame my insurance agent for not making these facts clear to me $ 50,000 is over half of my assets and I would not do this again with Aviva or any other company
I have been both pleased and disappointed with my Aviva annuity it is the most confusing and complicated investment vehicle I have ever seen and I have been an investor for a long time. Thats the negative I do understand it better now but I may never fully comprehend all of the ins and outs. The good news is that over the last two and a half years I have made money and lost nothing so I am pleased over all and not complaining. Aviva can you find a way to simplify this?
HAve been with Aviva 2 yrs. Have made a little gain and no loss at this point. Will have to see…my investor told me my indexed annuity will double in 10 yrs if I can leave it in place. Have to agree— it is confusing.
I placed a large portion of my money in an Aviva annuity since I was getting near retirement. It was a tough decision since the market was still doing well and I knew that my earnings may not be that good with this annuity but I have to say it was truly the best decision I could have made at the time looking back. I have a guaranteed income, I have lost no money and my balance is up modestly from where I started. I have several friends who have not fared so well…
